Course Description
This course is designed to reinforce and expand on the fundamental principles and techniques of critical thinking and argumentation emphasized in Argumentative Discourse 1. Student teachers will be fully engaged in the development of a perspective; analysis; criticism and synthesis of professional, political, economic, moral and philosophical issues of a diverse nature; the evaluation of the credibility or bias of a source; and distinction between relevant and irrelevant information. The course facilitates self-directed learning as lecturers allow the students to hone and apply their skills of argumentation through research, individual and group presentations, debates, critical reviews, demonstrations, essay writing and feedback. In so doing, the student teachers will create opportunities for ownership of their learning, improved communicative competence and self-assessment.
