YEAR: YEAR 1, SEMESTER 1
COURSE TITLE: Conversational Spanish
COURSE CODE: LCSP1102
DURATION: 45 HOURS
NO. OF CREDITS: 3
PRE-REQUISITE: None

Course Description

This three-credit course is designed for those student teachers who have no, poor or elementary knowledge of Spanish. It covers a large number of language functions which are present in everyday situations. It aims to allow students to develop their communicative skills, and use the language for a given purpose, and in an authentic practical way. The language in the course reflects the kind of Spanish used by native speakers in oral or written communication. In those instances where a standard form does not exist, the course provides the word or expression normally used in Latin America, and refers to the equivalent used in Spain in the commentary following each dialogue. The lecturers act as facilitators while the students are immersed in the construction of their own knowledge via a collaborative mode. Assessment is ongoing, with one summative task at the end of each unit and a final research presentation at the end of the course.
