Course Description

This course is designed on the principles that govern learner centered education; namely collaborative, authentic, problem based learning. By observing these principles, participants are provided with opportunity to (a) translate theory into actual practice and (b) examine their assessment practices in light of the principles explored. It also places assessment as a major element of instruction which influences decisions at the classroom and policy levels. Three themes have been used in the organization of the course. These emphasize the integrative nature of assessment, its link between the school and society and the qualities of the teacher assessor. The principles of diagnostic, formative and summative assessment are integral features of the course.
