Course Description

This course will examine various theories and approaches that have had wide acclaim in behaviour management literature, research and practice. The units to be explored are ‘Introduction to the Learning Environment’, ‘Theoretical Foundations of Behaviour Management in the Learning Environment’, ‘Creating Safe and Supportive Learning Communities’, ‘Increasing Student Motivation and Learning’ and ‘Evaluating and Correcting Unproductive Behaviour’. A comprehensive range of techniques are offered to provide student-teachers with the knowledge, principles, concepts, strategies, skills and attitudes that will allow them to foster productivity in the classroom. When applied, these should result in measureable improvement in students’ achievement, motivation, self-esteem and overall attitude to learning. A combination of formative and summative assessment methods will be employed to capture authentic evidence of student-teachers competences in leading and managing diverse learning environments.
