Course Description

This course is designed for participants to engage in critical self- reflection to influence their development as emerging teachers who are responsive to national, regional and global demands. This three unit course is organized around themes: The Emerging Teacher: Developing Self-Knowledge; Understanding the Learners we teach: Implications for Practice and: Getting Ready for Professional Practice. These themes will direct the content coverage and will be presented via an integrated approach. The learning experiences are guided by constructivist ideologies which foster, collaboration, research and reflection. These learning experiences will expose student –teachers to the scientific and psychological theories of growth and development. They will also explore the professional context in which the teacher operates and provides opportunities for student-teachers to understand their roles and responsibilities in this context. As student-teachers explore each theme, their progress will be checked using self-assessment, peer assessment and portfolio development.
